At least 39 people are dead and 69 others are injured after a shooting at a Istanbul nightclub packed with New Year’s revelers Sunday.
Four people are currently listed in critical condition.
The attack occurred in the popular Reina nightclub, in the city’s Ortakoy area, where a single gunman stormed in during the early hours of 2017. Turkish media reports that between 500 and 600 people were in the venue at the time of the attack.
According to Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim, the assailant left his gun at the scene of the crime before fleeing.
“Inside he rained bullets brutally, mercilessly over innocent people who were there just to celebrate the new year and have fun,” Sahin said.
According to family minister Fatma Betul Sayan Kaya, 15 victims were foreigners from countries including Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Lebanon, and Libya.
