A group of Radiohead fans were attacked by a mob of men carrying sticks and bottles as they participated in a listening party of the band’s latest album, A Moon Shaped Pool, in Istanbul.
The incident happened Friday night at the Velvet Indieground record store, a popular destination for music fans in the city’s Cihangir district.
According to the record store’s staff, the altercation was caused by a group of roughly 20 men who wre unhappy that the store was playing music and handing out alcohol during the holy month of Ramadan, when Muslims are expected to fast during the day.
“We hope that someday we will be able to look back on such acts of violence as things of the ancient past. For now, we can only offer our fans in Istanbul our love and support.”
