Twitter no longer required for Periscope signup

Periscope used to require Twitter integration, after all the app is owned by the social network.

Yes, we did mean “used to,” because an app update now gives you the power to choose between a Twitter account and a phone number to sign up. You’ll still get user recommendations based on your Follow list if you register on Twitter, but that’s pretty much the only difference between the two. The update also allows you to swap profile pictures with snapshots in your Camera Roll and makes replying to comments as easy as one tap. Finally, if you install the refreshed iOS app, every ban you make will be announced in the comments section. This adds an “important layer of transparency and accountability,” according to the service.
