iPhone 6, 6 Plus pre-orders set new record in first 24 hours: Apple

Apple has announced a record number of first day pre-orders of the company’s next-gen handsets, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, with over four million devices flying off the supply line in the first 24 hours.
Demand for the new iPhones exceeded the initial pre-order supply, causing a significant amount to be delivered starting Friday, throughout September and for some in October. Additional supply will be available tomorrow, September 19th at 8AM local time at Apple retail stores. Customers are encouraged to arrive early or order online at Apple’s Online Store to pickup in store or receive an estimated delivery date. Both models will also be available Friday at AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless and additional carriers’ stores as well as select Apple Authorized Resellers such as Best Buy, Target and Walmart.

In addition to being available in the US, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will be available in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the UK tomorrow and in more than 20 additional countries beginning next Friday, September 26 including the following countries:

The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus feature 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch Retina HD displays respectively, and is packed with “innovative technologies” in an all-new “dramatically thin and seamless design” that is still “comfortable enough to hold and easy to use.” Both models include the following:

  • Apple’s A8 chip with second generation 64-bit desktop-class architecture
  • iSight and FaceTime HD cameras
  • “ultrafast” wireless technologies
  • Apple Pay for “simply and securely” making payments
Also included is iOS 8, the company’s “biggest release since the App Store,” features a “simpler, faster and more intuitive” user experience with new messaging and photo app features, predictive typing with Apple’s QuickType keyboard and Family Sharing. iOS 8 also includes the new Health app, giving users a “clear overview” of your health and fitness data and iCloud Drive, allowing users to “store files and access them from anywhere.”
iPhone 6 comes in gold, silver or space gray, and will be available in the US for the following prices with a two-year contract:

  • 16GB: $199
  • 64GB: $299
  • 128GB: $399
iPhone 6 Plus comes in the aforementioned colors, and will be available in the US for the following prices with a two-year contract:

  • 16GB: $299
  • 64GB: $399
  • 128GB: $499
